Alen Howard
History/Curriculum Advisor
Mr. Howard says, "I love being a teacher. Out of all the career options, there is not a more rewarding career." Alen's first degree was in Social Studies Education with a minor in History from the University of Oklahoma. Continuing his teaching preparations, he then attended Arizona State University and graduated with a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. While completing his educational goals, Alen worked his way through college by working for a souvenir company, and his travels took him around the United States and Canada. Mr. Howard says those travels "allowed me to gain a greater appreciation for the greatness of the United States and its people, as well as appreciate those of different backgrounds and cultures. I have been able to share many of my travel experiences with various classes over the few years I have taught."
The 2009-10 school year is Mr. Howardís second year at RCHS, but he has taught US History for the past 5 years; previous to that, he taught LDS Seminary for 5 years in Oklahoma and Arizona. He has lived in Eagle Mountain since August, 2008 and has enjoyed the snow instead of the tornadoes, and states, "I find nature fascinating."
He values time spent with his family. Alen married Marilyn in March of 2000, and they have 3 beautiful daughters: Haley (age 7), Kiersten (age 5), and Emma (age 2). Together they enjoy singing, dancing, and making videos, hanging out with family and friends, and playing computer games. Alen also enjoys collecting leather books, watching sports (especially OU football), playing sports, and eating lots of FOOD!
