Director's Message

Rockwell Scholars, Parents, Teachers, and Friends,

The faculty, administration, and staff of Rockwell Charter High School are excited for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year!

This summer, we are continuing to build on our past success, as well as upgrading our current facilities and programs. This is occurring because we are going back to the roots of a college prep curriculum and organizational structure, as mentioned in the Rockwell Charter.

I continue to stay dedicated to ensuring that students receive the best education possible. I promise that they will get a ROCK SOLID EDUCATION at ROCKWELL!

Here are some of the exciting upgrades to Rockwell for the 2010-2011 school year:
  1. College-type schedule (regular A/B block)
  2. We received a grant to be part of the ACT Pilot program, where all 11th grade students will take the ACT, and 9-10th graders will take the PLAN and EXPLORE tests, to gauge college readiness
  3. OUR EDNET EQUIPMENT (concurrent enrollment) ARRIVED THIS WEEK! Students will be able to take UVU classes while at Rockwell starting in the fall.
  4. OUR BRAND NEW SCHOOL BUS ARRIVES END OF JULY! Routes are continuing to be amended to accommodate those who have signed up for the bus service. (contact office for details)
  5. WE WILL BE STARTING ON OUR FIELD! It will, once completed, have the ability to host soccer and football games, as well as other school and community activities.
  6. The bar will be raised when it comes to the rigor of the curriculum. All the core classes, taught in a regular classroom, will be taught at an Honors level. High School students will also be able to take college-level (AP) and college courses (concurrent enrollment; EdNet through UVU) during their High School experience.
  7. 47% of our Full-time teachers have Master’s degrees or higher, with many having taught courses at BYU, SLCC, and UVU.
  8. Our counselor, Mrs. Hansen, a former college enrollment counselor and current adjunct professor, knows what it takes to get your student into college, get scholarships to help you pay for college, and to ensure your Rockwell Scholar is successful in college.
  9. 2010-2011 Sports teams will compete on the 2A Varsity level in UHSAA (e.g. Golf, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Track & Field, Cross Country)
  10. Strengthened Discipline policy to provide safety and security for your Scholar
  11. Family Student Organization (FSO) will hold regular meetings and will operate smoothly to support the school and its programs

We will continue to “inspire and require” our students to prepare for college, and enabling them to follow their dreams. We will provide authentic opportunities for Rockwell Scholars to practice their skills and assess their knowledge, through competitions and other contests and tournaments.

I hope that you will join me at ROCKWELL.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions,

Thank you for all you do for your Rockwell Scholar!

Sincerely,

Mr. Alen Howard, M.Ed.
